San Francisco 49ers defensive end Charles Omenihu was arrested by police on suspicion of domestic violence, police said on Tuesday.
The San Jose Police Department said Omenihu was detained on Monday, less than 24 hours after the 49ers defeated the Dallas Cowboys to move to within one game of the Super Bowl.
The 25-year-old was taken into custody but later released after posting bail.
The San Jose Police Department said officers were called on Monday by his girlfriend, who complained she had been shoved to the ground during an altercation.
Details on Omenihu’s charges
“Officers did not observe any visible physical injuries to the survivor, she did however have a complaint of pain to her arm,” police said in a statement.
“The survivor declined any medical attention at the time officers were conducting the investigation.”
The 49ers said in a brief statement they were aware of the incident and “gathering further information.”
Omenihu is in his second season with the 49ers after starting his career with the Houston Texans.
He recorded 4.5 sacks during the regular season and also had two sacks in the 49ers playoff victory over the Seattle Seahawks earlier this month.
Under the NFL’s personal conduct policy, Omenihu could face a six-game suspension if the allegation of domestic violence is confirmed.
Patrick Mahomes leads the Kansas City Chiefs against San Francisco on Sunday in a rematch of his 2020 Super Bowl victory in a showdown of NFL division leaders.
The 27-year-old quarterback directs the NFL’s highest-scoring offensive unit against a 49ers side that allows the fewest yards and second-fewest points in the league.
“They are still a great football team,” Mahomes said Wednesday. “A lot of that team is still there and they have gotten better and better. So I understand it’s going to be a challenge because I’ve played against them before and know how many great players they have on that defense.”
Niners coach Kyle Shanahan hasn’t forgotten the masterful play of Super Bowl 54 Most Valuable Player Mahomes, whose 17 touchdown passes this year include 15 from 20 yards or fewer and only four to wide receivers.
“There are not many people in the history of football as good as him,” Shanahan said. “He’s a top thrower on the planet. And the way he can move. He’s not always doing it with a flat-out (sprint), just running away from people, but the way he fills space and creates time.”
At 4-2, the Chiefs sit atop the AFC West division while the 49ers, 3-3, top Atlanta and the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC West thanks to a 2-0 mark in division games.
The Chiefs produce the most touchdowns of any NFL team when they get inside an opponent’s 20-yard line.
“We definitely have to be on alert for that,” 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw said.
If the 49ers can hold Kansas City to field goals after deep drives, it could be pivotal.
“We talked about that,” Niners defensive end Nick Bosa said. “That definitely could be a big turning point in the game, if we are able to keep them from getting seven.”
This season, the 49ers rank 13th at stopping teams that get inside their 20, with foes converting such trips into touchdowns 54% of the time.
Mahomes rallied the Chiefs with two touchdowns to beat the 49ers 31-20 in Super Bowl 54, a film Shanahan rewatched to analyze how to stop a repeat.
“I don’t like watching it. But this week wasn’t about that. I watched it for schematic reasons,” Shanahan said. “When you do stop stuff, that’s usually just when the play gets started. That’s why they’ve been consistently good.”
A top target for Mahomes is Travis Kelce, whose seven touchdown receptions this year include six from inside 10 yards.
The 49ers hope to prove they belong among the NFL’s top teams even after quarterback Trey Lance suffered a season-ending ankle injury in week two and was replaced by Jimmy Garoppolo, a starter for most of the past three seasons.
“We’re right there with everyone else. Most of this league is pretty close to the same spot,” Shanahan said. “A couple of teams are ahead of everyone, a couple behind everyone. We have as good a chance as anyone in this league.”
Unbeaten Eagles idle
Four division leaders are off this week — the undefeated Philadelphia Eagles (6-0), defending champion Rams, Buffalo Bills (5-1) and Minnesota Vikings (5-1).
The only team among the NFL’s four clubs with the best record to take the field this weekend is the New York Giants, who carry a 5-1 mark to Jacksonville (2-4).
The only game this week between teams with winning records sends Indianapolis (3-2 with a tie) to Tennessee (3-2).
Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa returns after missing two games with a concussion when the Dolphins host Pittsburgh.
Sunday’s other contests include Cleveland at Baltimore, Tampa Bay at Carolina, Atlanta at Cincinnati, Detroit at Dallas, Green Bay at Washington, the New York Jets at Denver, Houston at Las Vegas and Seattle at the Los Angeles Chargers. Chicago will visit New England on Monday.

The Cincinnati Bengals shrugged off driving snow to defeat the Buffalo Bills 27-10 and return to the AFC Championship game while the San Francisco 49ers beat the Dallas Cowboys 19-12 on Sunday to head to the NFC title contest.
Bengals winning
The Bengals win sets up a repeat of last year’s AFC Championship clash with the Kansas City Chiefs while the 49ers will face the Philadelphia Eagles for a place in the NFL’s Super Bowl.
While the Bengals will again be slight underdogs against Patrick Mahomes and company, they showed all their qualities of tough, no-nonsense football, with their offensive line giving outstanding protection to quarterback Joe Burrow.
Burrow completed 23 of 36 passes, throwing for 242 yards and two touchdowns while running-back Joe Mixon put up 105 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries.
“It was a complete game from everybody, offense, defense, special teams, domination from start to finish, that is what we expected,” Burrow told CBS television.
The Bengals set the tone from the opening series with Burrow leading his team on a six-play, 79-yard drive completed with a 28-yard touchdown pass to Ja’marr Chase.
Cincinnati soon had a 14-0 first quarter lead with Burrow finding an open Hayden Hurst with a 15-yard TD pass.
Injured Bills safety Damar Hamlin, who suffered a cardiac arrest in the abandoned regular season game against the Bengals earlier this month, was watching the game from a suite and received a standing ovation when he was introduced to the crowd.
But despite the home field advantage, the Bills struggled to get their offense moving until quarterback Josh Allen got them on the scoreboard with a one-yard rush at the end of a 15-play drive in the second quarter.
The Bengals thought they had a third touchdown just before half-time with a superb Burrow pass to Chase at the back of the end-zone but the catch was ruled incomplete after review and Cincinnati had to settle for a field goal which sent them in 17-7 up at half-time.
A Bills field goal brought them within a score of levelling the game but the Bengals were playing with a smart, disciplined approach and they extended their lead when the tireless Mixon finished off a 12 play drive with a one-yard rush.
Cowboys wait continues
The Cowboys’ 27 year wait for a return to the Super Bowl continues after they once gain failed to get past the divisional round.
Dallas have lost on each of the last seven occasions they have reached the divisional round and in a gruelling game, dominated by the defenses, they were hampered by losing their lead running-back Tony Pollard with an ankle injury in the second quarter.
After San Francisco opened the scoring with a field goal, Dallas responded with a second quarter four-yard touchdown pass from Dak Prescott to Dalton Schultz.
But troubled kicker Brett Maher missed the extra-point conversion — the sixth miss in his last seven kicks — and two interceptions from Prescott before the half didn’t help.
Robbie Gould had no such problems, converting from 47-yards and 50-yards before half-time to give the 49ers a 9-6 lead at the break.
Maher’s relief was evident after he was successful with his field goal attempt from 25 yards in the third quarter.
But San Francisco, led by rookie quarterback Brock Purdy, then produced the best drive of the game with George Kittle juggling the ball to complete a crucial 29 yard catch before the series ended with Christian McCaffrey’s two-yard burst into the end-zone.
Down seven points, Dallas came up against an impressive San Francisco defense, living up to their ranking as the league’s number one.
Maher struck a 43-yard effort between the sticks but with Gould responding and the 49ers not offering Cowboys any gifts, Dallas were left with 45 seconds to try and conjure up a miracle that didn’t materialise.
Purdy, a seventh round draft pick, didn’t throw a touchdown but nor did he throw an interception as he threw for 214 yards completing 19 of 29 passes and notched up his seventh straight win since being thrust into the starting role.
“He’s playing at a high level,” Kittle said of his quarterback. “Getting our best players the ball. He’s awesome and confident in the huddle. He’s just doing a great job.”
While the rest of America took a break from the hustle and bustle of life to celebrate Thanksgiving day with their family, relatives, and close friends, the Green Bay Packers were out at Fort Field clashing against the Detroit Lions.
And it’s safe to say it was all worth it, as they clinched another win and improved their record to 5-3. The highlight of the match went to none other than Packers safety Jonathan Owens.
In the first quarter, Owens recovered a fumble by quarterback Jared Goff and returned it 27 yards for a touchdown. This led the Packers to outgain the Lions 20-6 with 2:23 remaining on the clock.
Not one to miss a good moment, Simone Biles excitedly took to X (formerly Twitter) to fangirl over her husband, Owen.
She shared a video of Owen’s touchdown moment on her X profile.

Owens, on the other hand, said that the experience was surreal at first, noting that it was the first time being in the end zone since high school.
“Man, it was a great feeling.” Owens said after the game, via CNN.
Owens had a game-high 12 tackles, eight of which were solo, in addition to the tremendous scoop and touchdown. He led the Packers in tackles for the second straight game, as reported by JS Online.
