Evander Kane

The left wrist of Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane sustained a severe cut during his team’s victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday, and he was taken to the hospital right away.

Kane’s Accident

During a collision in the second period, the 31-year-old suffered the injury after falling to the ice. Kane’s wrist was accidentally skated over by opponent Pat Maroon during the ensuing battle for the puck, and a pool of blood was immediately produced on the ice.

Kane, who was obviously worried, stood upright once and hurried to the medical personnel while holding his wrist. Later on, he was given hospital admission.

Soon after the incident, the Oilers announced on Twitter that Evander Kane was stable after suffering a wrist injury early in the second period and had been taken to the hospital for a procedure later today evening.

The Oilers went on to win the game at the Amalie Arena in Florida, but after the game, the team’s thoughts were on Kane.

Coach Jay Woodcroft of the Oilers told reporters, “First and foremost, everyone on our club, everyone in our organization, is thinking about Evander Kane.

“When an incident like that occurs on the ice, that is what we think of first. It’s never enjoyable to witness one of your teammates in that circumstance.

“Thanks to the excellent medical team that we have in our company and those at the arena who responded quickly and checked on him to make sure he was well.

“He’s in a good position and he’s getting well taken care of,” is the only update I have so far, and it is extremely sparse.

His fellow players appeared stunned at the incident, and many of them yelled for medical personnel to come quickly.

Goalie Jack Campbell told reporters, “We’re very grateful. The medical team was fantastic and got him the attention he needed straight soon.

Kane reportedly agreed to a $20.5 million, four-year contract earlier this year. He has played in 13 games this season and currently has five goals and eight assists.
