Morocco

Morocco provided some joy in the World Cup which was spoiled by some saddening events. They have become the first African team to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup, and they also managed to have a quick sharing session with their biggest fans.

Achraf Hakimi drew the attention of the cameras after his decisive penalty shootout win against Spain in the last 16 when he went over to celebrate with his mother in the crowd and was photographed receiving a proud kiss on the cheek.

He did the same thing after Morocco’s quarter-final win over Portugal, clambering into the stands to embrace her. Following the Spain game, he posted a photo of them together with the caption “I love you mum”.

He isn’t the only one who has benefited from maternal assistance during the tournament. Several videos of players greeting their parents at full time have gone viral in the aftermath of the Portugal game, including one of Sofiane Boufal dancing with his mother on the sidelines while Moroccan fans cheered them on.

Fan reaction towards Morocco players showing love to their mothers

Fans are deeply touched at this display. They felt the humanity and the loving family relationships the players have with their mothers. Furthermore, fans are now stating that they want Morocco to win the World Cup even more thanks to this display.

The video uploaded on Twitter shows Sofiane Boufal and his mom dancing. Apparently the dance is called the “mumba” as stated by another fan.

Fans stated that this is a true display of the World Cup, where no drunk hooligans are running around the stadium, fans are cheering one another, mothers and sons celebrating their achievements. Regardless of what is being said about Qatar, it did bring some joy to people.

Another fan stated “Morocco’s play style:. Focused, disciplined, fierce, is what make the Beautiful Game, well, beautiful!   Years from now, we’ll still be talking about Morocco’s 2022 World Cup team.”

Some fans who are staying in the UK even admitted that this display has placed a smile on their face despite the tough times their country is currently enduring. Furthermore, Morocco is the first ever African/Arab country to reach the semi finals of the World Cup, thus it is an event worth celebrating.
