Najam Sethi, the new head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), provided supporters with a thorough update on the nation’s position toward participation in the upcoming ODI World Cup in India.
Pakistan has previously threatened to abstain from the main tournament if India did not agree to visit the Asia Cup, which is slated to take place before the World Cup.
This is after Jay Shah, the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and secretary of the BCCI, declared that India would not be sending a squad to the continental event in October, tensions between the two cricket boards grew.
On Monday, Sethi reaffirmed that Pakistan’s government, not the cricket association, will decide whether or not to send the nation to the World Cup.
Statement made by Pakistan’s head cricket board
“We won’t go to India if the government orders us not to. Let’s be clear about the cricket-related relations between Pakistan and India. The government always makes the final choice on whether to play, not play, or go on tour,” Sethi stated.
“The PCB can only seek clarification on these issues,” he continued, “as these decisions are only made at the government level. The ACC will be contacted, according to Sethi. “Before making a decision, I shall assess the circumstances. We must be certain that we are not acting alone in every action we make.”
In the event that India travels, it will be their first trip to the neighboring nation in 13 years. After the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, the bilateral series had practically come to a stop.
The squad had last visited Pakistan during the 2008 Asia Cup. Pakistan has only once visited India since the bombings, and that was in 2012 for a bilateral series. But at ICC and ACC events, the two sides have competed in some wild matches.
