The first-place finisher in a recent women’s cycling competition in New York City was trans athlete Tiffany Thomas, 46. Although she won, several cyclists competing in the Randall’s Island Crit complained that she had an unfair advantage in women’s sports and were upset by her victory.
In addition, after Tiffany Thomas defeated Hannah Arensman in the cycling competition, the former champion rider Hannah Arensman declared her retirement. Hannah stated this when she announced her retirement:
“At my last race at the recent UCI Cyclocross National Championships in the elite women’s category, I came in fourth, flanked on either side by male riders awarded third and fifth.”
She added, “My sister and family sobbed as they watched a man finish in front of me, having witnessed several physical interactions with him throughout the race.”
Tiffany Thomas began riding in 2018 despite being born a guy
The 46-year-old Tiffany Thomas was given up for adoption as a boy. She started riding in 2018 and recently took first place in several races.
She took first place in the Randall’s Island Crit cycling race in New York City on March 19 on Sunday. She published an Instagram post shortly after winning that shows her posing at the podium.
Tiffany Thomas stated in the caption: “It was a great day to play bikes with friends. I can’t wait for more days like this (but maybe a little warmer).”

According to USA Cycling regulations, Tiffany Thomas is classified as being at the elite level in Category 1. The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) guidelines for transgender cyclists competing at the highest level of competition are followed by USA Cycling.
These are the guidelines for transgender athletes: “Those who transition from female to male (FTM) are eligible to compete in the male category upon providing a written and signed declaration acceptable to the UCI Medical Manager. It is the responsibility of athletes to be aware of current WADA/USADA policies and to file for appropriate therapeutic use exemptions.”
