It has been confirmed that Noah Lyles will participate in the men’s 100-meter race in London on July 20. The London Athletic Meet will be the final big sports event before the Olympic Opening Ceremony in Paris.
Lyles is one among Team USA’s medal contenders for the summer Olympics in Paris, having won three gold medals at the World Athletics Championships the year before. He won the gold in the 100-, 200-, and 4×100-meter relay events at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest last 2023. Lyles is excited to be going back to London to get ready for the Olympics.
Lyles declared: “Last year was my first time competing in London and to run such a fast time was a great experience…The atmosphere in the London Stadium was incredible and I could feel the energy coming from the crowd.”
Lyles return in the competition
Lyles makes his way back to the London Stadium after setting a record for the fastest 200 meters ever at the competition in 19.47 seconds the year before. He was set for his three world titles the next month with the fastest time of 2023.
Cherry Alexander, UK Athletics’ strategic head for major competitions, stated, “With just under three months to go, we are really excited to be announcing one of the world’s best athletes for the London Athletics Meet.”
“Noah has established himself as one of the greatest sprinters in the history of the sport, and after his stunning 200m performance at the London Stadium last year, we are delighted to be welcoming him back to contest the 100m, just a matter of days before the Olympic Games gets under way,” she added.
The 2024 Paris Olympics will commence from Friday July 26 to Sunday August 11, with the athletics competition starting on August 1.
