Athing Mu

Athing Mu will not be running in the women’s 800-meter race at the Prefontaine Classic, as reported by the Runner’s World.  According to her coach Bobby Kersee, she still experiences some left hamstring tightness, and this problem has kept her from starting her season for the third time.

She was also originally scheduled to compete in the Oxy Invitational in Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Grand Prix, but she withdrew from both events to prevent worsening her condition.

Athing Mu was the first American woman to win a world championship title in the 800m. She made her name known in the track and field world in 2022.

On the other hand, her track & field season in 2023 was somewhat unpredictable. The athlete wasn’t sure she really wanted to go to Budapest for the world championships. She claimed a bronze medal after deciding to compete at all, but she acknowledged that it was difficult to experience the same thrill and drive as in past seasons.

Athing Mu’s condition

With Mu’s condition, her coach admitted: “If I injure her before, I’m gonna be called a fool; if I don’t race her before, I’m gonna get [criticism]. So I have to do the math that’s going to put her on the team, and so whatever that math is between now and the 21st, that’s what I’m gonna do.”

However, the track and field community remains unaffected by this news, expressing a sense of disappointment at being let down once more. Noting that this was her third competition withdrawal, fans are nor surprised by it anymore. Others expressed that even if she is injured or not, she consistently withdraws from races.

On the other hand, several fans wished for her recovery, and that everything will be better before the 2024 Paris Olympics.
