A half marathon completed while dribbling a basketball in just one hour, twenty-one minutes and eighteen seconds set a world record, set by 24-year-old Ben Duong of Austin on Sunday (June 23) at the Austin Marathon.
He broke the previous Guinness World Record of completing a half marathon while dribbling a ball in one hour and twenty-five minutes.
With the support of the San Antonio Spurs, Duong broke the record and shared his excitement with the Austin American-Statesman, KVUE’s media partners.
“It doesn’t seem genuine. To be really honest, I’m amazed. We’re here. I’m trembling. We have arrived here. Without all of my friends and family, I would not have been able to succeed. All those who have helped me,” Duong was quoted as saying by msn.com
Duong’s stunning dribble
Duong had to run with his dribble intact to beat the record, which he skilfully did. It was forbidden for him to pick up the ball while he was running, and if he had misplaced it, he would have needed to go back to that same location to get his dribble back.
Everybody was on the edge of their seats during this incredible demonstration of talent and endurance.
As a successful McNeil High School alum, Duong showed his commitment to sports by competing in cross-country and track.
He continued to be passionate about these activities while pursuing a bachelor’s degree at Dallas Baptist University, where he improved his abilities and gained considerable success.
Duong is pursuing an MBA at the University of Texas in San Antonio while continuing to show his athletic prowess.
