France gave financial guarantees to the International Olympic Committee, having been chosen to host the Winter Olympics in 2030 under certain conditions.
The French Alps has been the front-runner in the bids since June. However, it was unable to provide the required state and regional financial assurances on time due to the elections and some political disturbances.
In July, the IOC declared that France needs the guarantees to be signed by the prime minister by October 1 and endorsed by the parliament by March 1, 2025.
In response, Michel Barnier, the French prime minister, said: “As Prime Minister… I commit to guarantee to cover any potential budgetary deficit of the organizing committee.”
The last three Winter Games that France hosted were the following: Albertville in 1992, Grenoble in 1968, and Chamonix in 1924.
