In the second round of the Wuhan Open, Erika Andreeva defeated her younger sister Mirra, who ranked higher, and admitted that the match was tough for both of them.

Before their first professional meeting on the WTA Tour, the sisters couldn’t help their smiles. However, Mirra, ranked 19th in the world, had predicted that it would definitely be a nightmare if she faced her sister Erika, who ranked 70th, and it turned out to be true.

After trailing 3-1 in the opening set, Mirra dropped nine games in a row to lose 6-3, 6-1. With this, Erika said: “First experience, and both of us were happy it happened at a big tournament, but I’m not sure we enjoyed it.”

Prior to the tournament, Mirra admitted that it had been years since she had engaged in a practice match with her sister. However, they continued to read each other’s games and predict each other’s shots.

Erika said: “It’s true, because we played each other in childhood a lot… I know where she will most possibly go, and she as well. Sometimes during the rally I was like, ‘Normally I go there, but I know that she knows that I go there,’ and I changed my decision. I’m not sure that was the best choice sometimes.”

Following in the footsteps of the famous siblings Serena and Venus Williams, Mirra and Erika are the first sisters to compete against one another on the WTA Tour.
