In the 2025 season, Jonas Vingegaard said he is motivated to regain his best form and win another Tour de France championship.

At this year’s Tour, the two-time champion finished second, more than six minutes behind winner Tadej Pogacar from the UAE Team Emirates. However, his performance was affected by a devastating incident in April that left Vingegaard with many broken ribs and a broken collarbone. That he still finished second despite his injuries in April and little subsequent preparation gives him faith that he can do better in 2025.

The athlete declared: “Of course, if everything had gone perfect for me this year in the Tour de France and I would have been beaten by six or seven minutes … it would have been harder for me to keep the faith, but I know what happened to me…I know how bad it was. So when I know that, I also have a lot of faith and belief that I can be better because I know that the preparation I had was far from ideal. That gives me a lot of faith in myself.”

Vingegaard added: “[Pogacar] was better this year than he was in 2022 and 2023, so I also have to be better than I was in those years. I have to improve next year if I want to win it again. And of course, I’m also very motivated to do that, to get even better, to fight every day and to see if I can win it again.”

While Vingegaard is set to participate in the Tour de France next year, the rest of his schedule is yet to be confirmed.

The 2025 World Championships road race will give Vingegaard another chance to make his racing debut. Although he has not yet participated in the competition, he  said about the three upcoming World Championships locations in France, Canada, and Rwanda: “Hopefully, three good courses for me.”
