On Monday, 21st March 2022, Vandana Katariya who is a hockey player receives India’s one of the most prestigious awards Padma Shri for her excellent services in the field of sports, Hockey. Hockey which is considered to be the national sport of India, this year amongst the 9 athletes, she was one of the ones to receive the award.

The 29-year-old, Indian Hockey Player Vandana Katariya receives India’s prestigious glory – Padma Shri on Monday. As we mentioned above she is among those nine athletes and the only hockey player who has been named for the award this year. The was a part of the Tokyo Olympics as a hockey player where they finished 4th place.

Vandana achieved her award from President of India Ram Nath Kovind. She received the prestigious award at the famous Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi, where the President resides. There was a ceremony which was conducted in order to felicitate the award winners.

There are three categories that come under the name of Padma Awards – Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri. All these awards hold the value of different disciplines which come under fields such as art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc.

The Padma Vibhushan is given to those who work exceptionally and provide distinguished services. The Padma Bhushan is awarded to those who are known for distinguished service of high order and finally, Padma Shri is awarded to those with distinguished service in any field. The awardees are announced on the occasion of Republic Day each year, which is on the 26th of January. The awards are then given to their respective holders by the current president of India at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in the month of March/April.

Vandana Katariya Achievements

Vandana has also been a part of the Asian Champions Trophy in 2016, where India won a Gold medal and also, Asia Cup in 2017. She was a part of the Asian Games, winning Bronze in 2014 and Silver in 2018 among several other achievements. She started her career as an athlete on the Railway Sports Promotion Board, later on, she got selected as a part of the Indian Junior Women’s team in 2006.
