Baseball player Matthew Carlsen from Bethel University wrote his name into the record books on April 6, 2024. Carlsen came through with the hit that was needed to tie Bryce Marquardt’s career record of 209 hits.

On April 6, Carleton College won both ends of an exciting doubleheader against Bethel in a breathtaking display of dominance on the field. A dominant 10-2 victory was achieved in the first game, and an exciting 10-9 victory in 11 innings was achieved in the second encounter.

Tuesday night at home against Florida Atlantic, senior Brian Ellis’ first-inning walk broke an unofficial NCAA record by making it 102 straight games in which he reached base safely. The NCAA does not record consecutive safe trips to the plate as an official statistic; they must occur via a hit, a walk, or being struck by a pitch.
Mark Payton of Texas established the previous record in 2013–14 with 101, which Ellis surpassed.

Tollett said, “I think out of all the records anyone could have, I think this one definitely says who he is. He is the most selfless player I’ve ever coached. It’s just his job to get on base. He just does it better than anyone I’ve ever coached and, right now, probably better than anyone in the country.”
The streak started on April 30, 2021, when Ellis walked and was struck by a pitch while playing North Florida. He reached base in the final 11 games of the 2021 season, all 58 games of the 2022 season, and all 33 games this year, USA Today reports. During his record-breaking run, Ellis amassed 143 hits in 401 at-bats, earning 78 walks and taking 39 pitches.

Back in mid-July, the ATP tour shared the then 18-year-old Michelsen’s backstory.
In the piece, it was revealed that Michelsen followed in the footsteps of his parents, Erik and Sondra, who both played college tennis. Michelsen recounted throwing backhand strikes at his family’s garage door at the age of three, a gesture that has since become one of his most effective weapons on the court.
In his childhood, Michelsen got involved in different sports: tennis, baseball, and soccer. But as he approached his teens, he ultimately had to choose between the three.
“I chose tennis. And I find it way more enjoyable than most sports,” Michelsen said.
And this proved to be an excellent decision for Michelsen, as he dominated the scene as early as 18 years old. Even former No. 4 Brad Gilbert was left astounded when he witnessed the teen’s skills and compared him to Japan Open Champion Ben Shelton.
“He’s going to finish the year Top 100 and he’s going to be into the Aussie Open. But his game is completely different [from] Shelton, who had a big serve and kind of flies around the court.”
And just like an angel of prophecy, Gilbert back then foresaw what would happen today: Michelsen finishing the year in the Top 100.

Her team, No. 6 Iowa, won against No. 2 Ohio State with a score of 93-83, all thanks to her two free throws on a technical penalty. Clark undoubtedly surpassed the previous 54-year-old record held by Pete Maravich.
Clark needed to score eighteen points to beat Maravich’s record of 3,667 points, which the player accumulated in a total of 83 games. She made history by gaining 3,685 points in her 130 games.
