Ramiz Raja was very clear when he said that if the Indian cricket team doesn’t come to Pakistan for the Asia Cup the next year, Pakistan’s cricket team won’t tour India for the 2023 ODI World Cup.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) appear to be at odds with one another after Jay Shah said that India won’t visit Pakistan for the Asia Cup in 2023.
The PCB chairman, Ramiz Raja, responded to Shah’s remarks by stating that his side would not travel to India for the ODI World Cup, which is also scheduled for next year if the Indian players do not come to Pakistan for the Asia Cup. In response to Raja’s remarks on the subject, even former India opener Gautam Gambhir has spoken out.
According to Gambhir, who was quoted by the news agency ANI, the two boards will decide together on any matter.
“Both the BCCI and PCB have decided on this. Whatever they decide, they’ll do it together,” He told ANI about it.
Earlier, Ramiz Raja had stated on Urdu News that if the BCCI doesn’t send its squad to Pakistan for the Asia Cup, the Pakistani team won’t go to India for the ODI World Cup the following year.
Ramiz Raja’s statement
“Who will watch the World Cup if Pakistan doesn’t participate in it when it’s held in India the following year? We are very clear about our position: If the Indian team comes here, we’ll compete in the World Cup.
“They can play the World Cup without us if they don’t show up. We will move quickly and forcefully. Our crew is performing well. I’ve always argued that we need to boost Pakistan cricket’s economy, and we can only do so if we play well.
“We defeated India in the T20 World Cup in 2021. In the T20 Asia Cup, we defeated India. Pakistan’s cricket squad twice defeated a team from a country with a $1 billion economy in a single year.”
Pakistan was not visited by the Indian cricket team in 2005–2006. The two teams have only faced off in ICC competitions and haven’t played any bilateral cricket against one another in years.
In the past ten years or so, Pakistan has hosted a number of “home” series in the United Arab Emirates, but recently, other teams have begun to tour the nation. However, it still appears unlikely that the Indian team will visit Pakistan for the Asia Cup.
