Marco Asensio has announced his plans to depart Real Madrid from the La Liga league and manager Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed this. Ancelotti wants to finalise his status after their fight against Espanyol in the La Liga match on Sunday.
Asensio’s representative has joined an agency for footballers called the Jorge Mendes’ Gestifute agency. It is rumoured that someone close to the player leaked that Arsenal is very close to signing him. The cause of joining the agency was for him to remove any uncertainty regarding his future in football. There are also talks within the agency to set him up within the Emirates.
At only 26 years old, he has heavy interests from numerous clubs such as Manchester United and Tottenham. It was reported by the news portals that Arsenal is a few leaps ahead against the other team. Asensio has a powerful reputation on the field as he is a three-time Champions League winner.
He has declined to sign a new contract with Real Madrid for specific reasons, and currently has about 11 months left with the team. His current price tag is at a whopping £23.5 million. The team’s last resort is to capitalise the most they can out of him with his selling price.
One of the key reasons for Asensio’s departure from Madrid was due to him not receiving enough playing time. Before joining the World Cup, he requested for more time, but Madrid’s manager Ancelotti has not been able to make any promises.
Now, the player’s representative is waiting and prepared to begin negotiations towards a potential transfer. There’s only a few days left in the transfer window and Arsenal is doing the best they can to win this deal.
Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s manager had recently allowed Nicholas Pepe to be loaned to another team. Currently, the team is searching for a good replacement, and Arteta specifically wants Asensio at the top of the list.
According to reports, Arteta stated “If we can implement the plan that we have, we will try to do that. In the plan, that (Pepe’s loan) was something that could happen – now it’s a reality and we’ve been preparing the last two months in order to achieve what we want. Whether that’s possible or not, we will see.
