Messi’s Inter Miami front-runner to win Major League Soccer title
On Wednesday, Lionel Messi will begin his first full season with Inter Miami, surrounded by many of the top players from his great Barcelona days. There’s a tangible sense of excitement as his new squad appears to be the front-runner to win Major League Soccer for the first time in 2024.
Messi’s arrival in July of last year ignited instant genius and led Miami to the League Cup victory. However, even with his extraordinary efforts, the maestro was unable to summon enough magic to get the team beyond early-season obstacles and into the postseason. With a new campaign about to begin, all eyes are on Messi and Inter Miami, ready to see what could turn out to be a monumental chapter in MLS soccer history.
Suarez at Inter Miami
Luis Suarez, a 37-year-old Uruguayan striker, rejoins his former Barcelona teammates Messi, Busquets, and Alba as a member of Miami’s already formidable roster. Amidst the excitement, the change has caused ticket prices to soar. Miami must now devise a successful plan to maximize the potential of its all-star group. Beyond the hype, securing the best possible performance from this extraordinarily gifted group is the main goal.
“Only if we prepare well and separate ourselves from believing that just by bringing together footballers, stories, pasts, we are going to do it. The teams that win are the ones that come together.” an article from sportstar.com shared.
After a preseason tour that caused some controversy when an unforeseen decision kept the renowned Lionel Messi out of a Hong Kong friendly, Miami is getting ready for an exciting return home. Disappointed fans have been heard booing the team. As the regular season gets off, Miami will face difficult obstacles in their quest to win the Eastern Conference.
Lionel Messi has made it among the big stars who won the World Cup and is now in the hall of fame of all time World Cup winners but with his age now means some US-based clubs are attempting at getting him on board to garnish and boost the Major League Soccer.
Phil Neville from Inter Miami CF is not hiding his aspirations to sign Messi if the club wants to aspire to bigger, better things and to become a leading force in the MLS in 2023.
“We need to bring in two or three starting players to take us to that next level,” the English coach said recently.
“I think last year was good,” Neville said. “We want this year to be great.”
It was a largely successful 2022 for the club that saw the South Florida-based club reach their first full-season Audi MLS Cup Playoffs.
Though it ended with a Round One loss to New York City FC, that does not mean the club should not think big. But as we know it all, big names like Messi does not come cheap. Whether the club can afford to bring Messi in or not will depend on what they have to offer the world champion.
Lionel Messi may beef up US Inter
Now that there are other countries that are also coughing huge amount of cash to players like Cristiano Ronaldo to beef up their league and bring it to the international level, Messi could also be caught up in one of those incredible whirlwind.
Cristiano Ronaldo has signed a contract worth $75 million a year with Al Nassr FC, a team that competes in Saudi Arabia’s premier division.
According to earlier rumours, Ronaldo would earn $207 million annually. According to recent rumours, Ronaldo will receive a guaranteed $75 million annually for his on-field contributions, with the possibility of increasing that figure to almost $200 million through business deals with the club.
Besides Messi, the Miami CF is also thinking of Josef Martínez. Messi has not renewed his contract with Paris St Germain yet, a contract that at the end of Europe’s 2022-23 season.
“For us, the landscape’s not changed at all,” he said about the possibility of signing the former FC Barcelona superstar. “With any deal for any DP of the level you’re talking about is complicated, it takes time.
Despite the fact that Gareth Bale left the club in an unsurprising manner, following his country Wales’ poor performance at the World Cup, the LAFC is still tipped by bookmakers to win the MLS Cup in 2023.
It is unsurprising that LAFC continues to have widespread support and is regarded as the best team in Major League Soccer.
As usual, there will be plenty of other teams hoping to lift the trophy this season, including Inter Miami CF, whose coach, former Manchester United star Phil Neville, hopes to sign Argentinian Lionel Messi in the near future.
Why the Los Angeles Football Club?
Los Angeles FC won 21 of their 34 regular-season games to claim the 2022 Supporters’ Shield. Following that, Steve Cherundolo’s team defeated the Los Angeles Galaxy and Austin FC in the playoffs before defeating the Philadelphia Union in the MLS Cup Final.
Last season, Cristian Arango had 16 goals and four assists, while Carlos Vela had 12 goals and nine assists.
Last year, Bale, one of the most well-known players in MLS history, scored three goals in 13 games for LAFC. He also helped them win the Supporters’ Shield, making them the eighth MLS team to do so in a single season. Though the club will be without his help, they are still considered the team with the league’s most lethal attack.
Martinez to Miami?
On the other hand, Inter Miami is in talks to sign Atlanta United’s Josef Martinez, according to a Major League Soccer report. Though he had his limited time on the pitch, the former MLS MVP continues to produce good goal and assist numbers and this despite his injuries.
The arrival of Martinez may galvanise Miami to produce a better result than last season. Last year was a largely successful one for the club that saw the South Florida-based club reach their first full-season in the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs.
