Vinales

Maverick Vinales of Aprilia won the sprint at the Grand Prix of the Americas marking his second consecutive season victory. Moreover, the podium was dominated by Spanish riders, with Marc Marquez and MotoGP leader Jorge Martin coming in second and third, respectively.

Vinales, who also won the sprint at the Portuguese Grand Prix in the previous round, saw redemption with this success. He was in a wreck on the last lap of the race in Portimao because of a technical issue when he was in the run for second place.

“Can I just say I’m dreaming! I want to keep going. The level was amazing… We deserve it.”

Vinales – ideal start

Vinales got off to an ideal start, jumping ahead of Gresini Ducati’s Marquez, who passed GasGas Tech3 youngster Pedro Acosta as soon as the lights went out to go from third to second. The top three separated themselves from the rest of the field, and Martin of Pramac Racing moved to fourth position in an effort to catch up.

With five laps remaining, Vinales kept stretching his advantage while Martin was able to push Acosta aside and get a better view of Marquez.

Vinales triumphantly took the checkered flag, while Marquez ended up in second position, securing another podium finish. Martin was unable to complete enough laps to attempt a comeback, but third place gave him a 24-point lead in the championship.
