Numerous unexpected changes were implemented by the organization when the new NBA season began. Among those adjustments was the inclusion of an in-season competition that split the 30 teams into six groups.
As of right now, the competition has just concluded its group stage and has moved on to the knockout stages, where, ultimately, one team will win the NBA Cup and its players will each receive a whopping $500,000.
Not only this, at the end of the inaugural in-season tournament, the league will also hand out prestigious awards such as the “MVP of the competition” and the “All-Tournament Team,” as per NBA.

NBA’s brightly-colored courts
Furthermore, the league also unveiled before the start of the tournament that they would be using new brightly-colored courts in place of the traditional wood design.
While some made fun of the courts and called it ‘hideous’, others found them to be somewhat “appealing.”
As per CNN, the ball court designs have even helped the NBA increase its viewership.
An NBA spokesperson, Jacinda Ortiz, stated that the courts’ distinctive designs were intended to entice not only enthusiasts but also anyone who was just switching across channels from the comfort of their home.
“The notion was to ensure that people would see the courts [and] would instantly recognize that was something different was happening,” said Oriz, via CNN Philippines.

As the LA Lakers continue to struggle to gain momentum in the young NBA season, there seemed to be one motivation that kept pushing the players to do their best on court: the $500,000 cash prize.
In-season tournament’s incentive
This season, the NBA came dressed in a brand new format as it incorporated an ‘in-season tournament’ that consists of group stages and knockout rounds. And while some players and, well, let’s admit it, many of us, are still somehow confused by the concept, one thing is clear: there’s a hefty cash prize waiting for those who win the in-season tournament.
$500,000 is a lot, and even the richest players can’t seem to ignore the over-the-top incentive. According to Forbes, the average salary nationwide in the US is $59,428, which means that the prize is worth more than eight years of regular work. But for a basketball player, it will only take a few weeks to earn it.
Of course, the road to get there will be fairly hard, as the teams have gotten a lot more competitive and passionate these days. A few weeks into the season, and we’ve already witnessed a lot of records being broken. Older numbers are sent into oblivion as newer numbers eclipse them.
LA Lakers: Cash Prize
And while we’re teetering on a new era of basketball, the LA Lakers are currently set on one thing, and one thing only, the cash prize.
Earlier this week, both LeBron James and Anthony Davis outrightly expressed their desire to clinch the prize.
“It feels great because it’s an In-Season Tournament win, we’ll take that, we’ll take that for sure. I heard there’s $500,000 on the line, so we’re going for that,” Lebron James said in an interview with ESPN.
“$500 [thousand] sound real good to us. It’s going to bring that juice,” Anthony Davis said in front of the media.
The Lakers are using the $500K per player prize as one of their motivators for the In-Season Tournament.
A Lakers player: “Man,’ when we beat Phoenix, ‘That’s one step closer to this $500K. I’ve never had that before.”
AD also added that one of the players on the team had expressed his enthusiasm after the team’s victory over the Phoenix, noting that they had now moved a step closer to achieving their goal of reaching the five hundred thousand dollars.
A thrilling showdown between the LA Lakers and Denver Nuggets will take place in the 2023 Western Conference Finals. The Lakers are the underdogs in the series, but they have a chance to shock Denver and go to the NBA Finals for the second time in four years.
The National Basketball Association (NBA) is made up of two conferences, one of which is the Western Conference. It consists of 15 teams, most of which are situated in the western part of the country. With perennial contenders like the Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors, and San Antonio Spurs, the Western Conference is renowned for its skilled and fiercely competitive teams. A riveting and hotly contested division of the NBA, the Western Conference has a long history of passionate rivalries, top players, and exciting matches.
In Denver, Colorado’s Ball Arena, the Western Conference Finals’ opening contest will take place on Tuesday. The Nuggets will have a homecourt advantage in the series since they had the best regular-season record in the West, an article on sportskeeda.com reported.
