Silje Ospeth couldn’t help her pride and joy when she realized that she had broken the world record for women’s jumps, regardless of her bruises and cuts that served as her battle scars.
The Norwegian athlete landed a 230.5-meter jump at a competition in Vikersund, Norway, and had beaten the previous record of 226 meters by Ema Klinec of Slovenia at the same location last year.
Ospeth’s competition started in an unfortunate way after she had fallen on landing during the trial run for a 236-meter jump, resulting in her having cuts on her face. However, the seven-time World Cup champion recovered, and due to her perseverance, broke the world record with her final attempt.
Not Opseth with the fall
In an Instagram post, she shared her heartfelt gratitude: “Wow, what did just happen? – World record 🫣…Overwhelmed by all the messages, but could never done this alone! Thanks to my coaches, service team, team colleagues, competitors, family, friends, the medical team in the hill (and at Ahus), sponsors, the volunteers and everyone else who’s involved in my “top-sport- project”. We made it together!”
Opseth fell in love with the sport back in 2010 after doing her first jump during a New Year’s celebration. Eventually, she proceeded to make her World Cup debut five years later. She has represented Norway at the 2018 and 2022 Winter Olympic Games.
