It was a great night in the EPL this weekend with Manchester City earning a point that keeps them among the top clubs in the league behind an impressive Arsenal that has won all its three opening matches.
City got itself entangled in a 3-3 draw at St James Park where Newcastle had a great start leading by 3-1 before city put up a brilliant fightback to snatch a point.
Arsenal’s brilliant performance with Martin Odegaard scoring twice and William Saliba scoring aw well, sealing Mikel Arteta’s revolution at the club with this 3-0 over Bournemouth.
With that victory, Arsenal won their third game in a row to begin the 2022-23 season. The 3-0 victory propels them to the top of the Premier League, marking their first perfect three-game start to a season since 2004-05.
Another highlight of the match is the overturned red card.
Newcastle thought they were down to 10 men after Trippier was sent off for a knee-high trip on De Bruyne. However, after reviewing the incident on a pitchside monitor, referee Jarred Gillett downgraded it to a yellow card, and both teams were awarded a point.
Newcastle were two goals up after 54 minutes but Erling Haaland and Bernardo Silva scored within four minutes of each to keep City’s unbeaten run at the start of this season intact.
But City’s title defence has taken its first shock with this draw. The Manchester club took the lead via Ilkay Gundogan, who left unmarked from Silva’s pass, beat Nick Pope.
Newcastle equalised with Miguel Almiron sliding in a cross. The goal was first on hold and VAR confirmed there were no mistakes and it was given.
Next Callum Wilson shot Newcastle into the lead. Kieran Trippier, who was sold by City in 2012, grabbed a brilliant third for Newcastle with a stunning 25-yard free-kick.
At 3-1, it looked harder for City to make a comeback but that was not counting on Haaland who pulled one back after Rodri’s pass, and Silva soon equalised following a Kevin de Bruyne’s through ball.
