Antonio Conte recently gave a moving speech about losing friends in the past three years, and now, former Tottenham player Anton Walkes has passed away. Well, death seems to be following Tottenham these days.

Though Conte was not managing the Spurs during Walkes’ time there, the timing is eerie in relation to Conte’s recent comments.

The Guardian reported that Charlotte FC announced the passing of Anton Walkes on Thursday. He was found unconscious on Wednesday after a collision of two boats near Miami Marine Stadium located in South Florida. Despite receiving CPR and being taken to the hospital, he unfortunately passed away.

Charlotte FC’s response to Walkes’ death

Charlotte FC owner, David Tapper stated, “Everyone at Tepper Sports & Entertainment is devastated by the tragic passing of Anton Walkes. He was a tremendous son, father, partner and teammate whose joyous approach to life touched everyone he met.” 

“Walkes made those around him better people in all areas of life and represented Charlotte FC to the highest standard both on and off the pitch. He will be greatly missed by many and our thoughts and prayers are with Anton’s family during this heart-breaking time. The club offers its full support to all those impacted during this period of mourning.”

Tottenham paying tribute to him

Being an important component defender and winger in the team’s structure back in the day, it must have come as a shock to the Spurs as well. He was with them for about six years and has contributed immensely to the team during his time there. 

 

The club released a statement expressing their sadness at the news of Walkes’ passing and extending their condolences to his family and friends. The Spurs announced that their players will wear black armbands in honour of Walkes, and MLS fans have taken to Twitter to share their condolences. 

It was also announced by the Spurs that their players will wear a black band on their arms in solidarity for his death. Charlotte FC fans have also noted their respect for Tottenham for mourning the loss of one of their former players.

Fans are shocked to hear of the 25-year-old’s death. He has his whole life ahead of him and now it’s gone. Other MLS football clubs expressed their sympathies over Charlotte FC’s tweet announcing his death. 

Almost all fans had only positive remarks to be said about him. They appreciated his work with Tottenham and Charlotte FC. Apparently, the other clubs in the US are having mourning sessions for him. This shows how much of an impact he has among the Americans coupled with the fact that his European counterparts did not forget him.
