Get ready for a crazy league, Erling Haaland told a newcomer to the English Premier League (EPL).
Dominik Szoboszlai, a talented 22-year-old midfielder, spoke to Haaland before moving to Liverpool. And that’s the advice the Manchester City star striker gave him: Get ready for a crazy league.
Szoboszlai and Haaland spoke to each other as former teammates.
Szoboszlai was acquired by Liverpool from RB Leipzig for £60 million. He is the Red’s second summer signing. Alexis MacAllister was the first, acquired from Brighton & Hove Albion for an initial fee of £35 million.
Haaland had played for RB Leipzig, too, in 2019-2020 before transferring to Borussia Dortmund and then joining Manchester City in 2022.
Szoboszlai said about Haaland, “We are still close. We talk when either of us has time. We message each other or call each other. Before I joined Liverpool, he just said, ‘get ready!’, but he knows I’m ready. He told me it’s a crazy league and I’m going to love it,” an article from sportskeeda.com mentioned.
How Liverpool fared in the pre-season
The Reds, who finished fifth last season, set out on a passionate pre-season quest to recapture their top-four status. Germany served as the setting for their matchup with Bundesliga contenders. They made their intentions clear with a stunning 4-2 victory against Karlsruher, which was quickly followed by an electrifying 4-4 tie with Furth.
The Reds’ pre-season action also saw them in Singapore, where they won a convincing 4-0 victory over former champions Leicester City (2015–16) before losing 4-3 to Bayern Munich.
Liverpool were back in winning form on August 7 when they defeated Darmstadt 98, a newcomer to the Bundesliga, 3-1 at Preston’s Deepdale Stadium. Now the real action begins. Liverpool and Chelsea face off in the opening match of their 2023–24 Premier League journey on Sunday, August 13. It’s time for Szoboszlai to get ready for what Haaland called the crazy league.
