Manchester United is in desperation and after some failed high-profile transfers, the club is now considering a shock sweep for the 35-year-old Jamie Vardy.
Coach Erk Ten Hag apparently believes Vardy could solve the current problem with a lack of playable strikers at the club.
The club has altogether ended their pursuit of Marko Arnautovic due to a fan backlash sending Erik ten Hag and the club in desperate search for a new striker.
The Red Devils were reported to be in talks to sign the former Stoke City striker to lead their forward line.
The move came amid persistent rumors that Cristiano Ronaldo was seeking a move away from the club last week. Both the club and Ronaldo seem to have quashed the rumors.
But the attempt to get Arnautovic was met with derision from fans at the time, who were surprised that the club was interested in the 33-year-old Austrian.
After a backlash from supporters, as well as a valuation difference with the Serie A side on a transfer fee the club abandoned talks.
United is currently at the very bottom of the Premier League with a goal difference of minus five after two defeats in their first two games.
The 4-0 thrashing at Brentford on Saturday showed how weak the team was in attack, though the forwards did get some shots on target. But they failed to score.
Ten Hag’s men have not scored just a league goal this season – the team has an own goal in its favor- indicating a lack of firepower in the Dutchman’s squad, and now newspapers are reporting that 35-year-old Vardy has emerged as a target.
Who is Vardy?
Jamie Vardy came from a non-league background and rose to the Premier League and became champion with Leicester city. Subsequently, he became an FA Cup winner, as well as representing England in a FIFA World Cup, joining the Premier League 100 Club, and winning the Golden Boot,
He is one of the most inspiring fables of our time, says some pundits.
The striker has scored in double figures in all but one of his Premier League seasons as a Fox and is the Club’s all-time leading scorer. He has 26 England caps to his name, scoring seven goals.
Interestingly, if Ronaldo were to stay at United and Vardy were to join, they could form one of the most devastating forward duos in the club’s history.
