Lionel Messi once again outperforms Cristiano Ronaldo in the player ratings of the newest football game from EA Sports. Throughout the previous five years, Messi has consistently had the superior overall rating; the most recent tie was in FIFA 19 when both players were rated 94. Messi continues to almost rule the continuing conflict.

With a rating of 94 in FIFA 17 and FIFA 18, Cristiano Ronaldo briefly ousted Lionel Messi, ending his seven-year reign as the best player from FIFA 04 to 2009. With a rating of 78, Messi began the game in FIFA 2006. However, a surprise awaits players of the next FC 24 game: neither Messi nor Ronaldo will be the highest-rated player, ushering in a new era of virtual football.

The two players combined ratings for the previous 20 years are shown in the following table:

During the international break, both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi received a single game of respite

On the international scene for Argentina and Portugal, respectively, Lionel Messi, 36, and Cristiano Ronaldo, 38, continue to astound. With a critical 89-minute effort against Ecuador in the CONMEBOL FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifier, Messi recently stole the show.

He netted the sole goal of the game before being substituted due to exhaustion. Lionel Scaloni’s decision to exclude him from the lineup during Argentina’s 3-0 victory over Bolivia in the challenging La Paz altitude was unexpected, especially considering Messi’s remarkable record of eight goals against this traditional rival. It serves as a reminder that even football legends require periodic rest.

Following a caution in Portugal’s 1-0 triumph over Slovakia in UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying on September 7th, Ronaldo faced a suspension in his eventful career. Despite an astonishing 11 goals against them, he had to miss their 9-0 trouncing of Luxembourg just four days later.

He has since rejoined Al-Nassr and is prepared to serve as captain for the team when they face Al-Raed on September 16. Although Ronaldo experienced a brief setback, he is unquestionably ready to flourish on the pitch once more.
