The 65th edition of the Caribbean Series will take place in 2023. The Caribbean Professional Baseball Confederation’s national champions from each professional baseball league will compete in the tournament. It is comparable to the UEFA Champions League for football enthusiasts, however, it is a single event.
A team from the Colombian Professional Baseball League, Caimanes de Barranquilla, won the championship the previous season. In the championship game, they triumphed 4-1 over the Dominican Republic’s Gigantes del Cibao.
The competition will take place in Venezuela this year from February 2–10 at Jorge Luis Garca Carneiro Stadium in La Guaira and La Rinconada Stadium in Caracas.
La Rinconada Stadium, which can accommodate 38,000 people and is the biggest baseball stadium in South America, will be making its debut. The Caribbean Series championship game and third-place match will be played in La Rinconada.
On February 2nd, all eight teams will play in the tournament’s opening round. Cuba’s national champions and Curacao’s squad will square off in the opening encounter. After the contest between Cuba and Curacao, Mexico plays the Dominican Republic, then Colombia plays Puerto Rico. Venezuela, the host nation, will play Panama in the day’s last match.
The Caribbean Series’s competition structure
There will be just one round-robin for the competition. After each team plays the other, the four teams with the best records will advance to the semifinals. The second and third-place teams will compete for a position in the finals before the top seed and fourth seed square off.
For the bronze medal, the semifinal losers will compete against one another. At 7:30 p.m. on February 10, the winners of the semifinals will compete for the title.
