In the Las Vegas Aces’ 86-75 victory over the Indiana Fever, A’ja Wilson created WNBA history by breaking the single-season scoring record. Wilson scored 27 points overall to go ahead of Jewell Loyd’s previous record of 939 points from 2023, coming into the game with 929 points.
She demonstrated her abilities amazingly with a crucial jump shot from the free-throw line. She finished with 11 of 28 shots, 12 rebounds, three blocks, two assists, and two steals. Wilson’s commanding presence at Indianapolis’ Gainbridge Fieldhouse helped the Aces win.
Wilson said, “I’m so grateful to be able to play with just selfless women.” She added, “My teammates are the heartbeat that get me going. I don’t get zero points without them passing me the basketball”
Wilson sets record in first-half surge as aces predominate
When Wilson made her game-breaking jumper with 26 seconds remaining in the first half, the Aces took a 39-30 lead. The team dominated the opening quarter of the second quarter with a 10-3 run.
They had a 41-32 lead at the break. Despite the Fever’s 25-23 advantage in the third quarter, Wilson and the Aces replied with a scorching 11 points in the last ten minutes to seal the victory.
Guard Tiffany Hayes and veteran big Alysha Clark both put up impressive performances coming off the bench for the Aces, scoring 12 and 14 points apiece, while guard Chelsea Gray added 11 points and four assists.
Even with an outstanding 24-point performance, Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell was unable to earn a victory. Playing for the Fever, Clark had trouble converting shots; she only made six of 22 tries, including one of 10 from beyond the arc, and finished with 16 points.
Only four games remain in the regular season until the Aces, with a 23-13 record, lock up the fourth slot in the WNBA rankings. The Fever, who have a 19–18 record and are ranked No. 6, have also guaranteed a spot in the playoffs. Both teams will square off again on Friday in Indianapolis at 7:30 p.m. EDT, setting up an exciting race.
