Following the announcement of Damian Lillard and the Portland Trail Blazers parting ways, another piece of separation news broke on October 4, and this time, it involved Lillard’s marriage. Fans were then quick to react to this revelation on X and say the Buck’s guard is ‘running from the grind’, a phrase that he coined himself years ago.

According to Willamette Week, Lillard filed for divorce on October 2nd at the Clackamas County Circuit Court, pointing out “irreconcilable differences” as the primary cause of separation.

According to reports, the couple has been living apart for the last 10 months, with Hanson relocating to their West Linn House while Lillard continues to reside in their mansion. Furthermore, it has been disclosed that Lillard’s legal representatives have asked for privacy for the couple as they navigate this challenging period.

Lillard’s proposal and marriage

The pair were college sweethearts and met while they were at Weber State University in Utah. Kay’La Hanson stood by Lillard even before he entered the NBA scene and has supported the basketball player throughout the years. In 2020, Lillard shared in his interview with Ebony how he proposed to his long-time beau at the NBA All-Star weekend.

“I snuck all of my family and her family out to Chicago without her knowing. I told her we were attending a new Valentine’s Day event the NBA was hosting. We showed up to the venue where I had a wall full of roses designed with ‘Will You Marry Me?’ ”

The two tied the knot in September 2021, and now has three kids: five-year old Damian Jr., and two-year old twins, Kalii and Kali.

Fans react to Lillard’s Divorce
