Hornets'

Last year, the world saw Charlotte Hornets’ star Miles Bridges fall off his high horse when news of his violent nature came to light, shocking the unsuspecting fans around the world. According to court documents, Bridges allegedly struck his ex-partner, Mychelle Johnson, breaking her nose and her wrist, causing a “severe concussion,” strangling her until she “lost consciousness,” and causing other injuries.

Because of this, Bridges was arrested, charged with one felony count, and sentenced to 3 years of probation. In addition, his career took a huge hit when the Hornets retracted their steps and decided not to sign the forward for the 2022-2023 season.

The NBA also did its own investigation and imposed a 30-game suspension on the player.

But since he didn’t sign a contract and missed 82 games last year, the league figured out that 20 of those 30 games had already been taken care of, which meant Bridges only had to sit out 10 games before he could officially play again.

Reinstated and off the hook?

Wednesday’s 105-111 loss to the Heat marked the Hornets’ seventh loss, but since it was their tenth game, Bridges is now officially back with the team.

In a statement,  Hornets head coach Steve Clifford revealed that Bridges will play a big role on the team as soon as he joins them in Friday night’s game against the Milwaukee Bucks.

“Since he’s been here he’s had a great attitude. He’s been a terrific worker. He is a great teammate, and he’s a really, really good player. He’s got himself in good shape, and he’ll play a big role right away,” Clifford said, via ESPN’s Tim Bontemps.

Bridges also said in an interview that he is aware of how the public perceives him and that he gets it. He knows that regaining their trust will definitely take some time, so he’s simply going to keep playing, help the Hornets win more games, and hope that people’s perceptions will shift.

“So, is he off the hook?” is what people are mostly asking right now. Going by NBA’s rules, maybe so. But in the public eye, he remains condemned. Some even scoffed at his statement, saying that accountability and self-improvement are the ones that’s going to change the people’s perception of him, not some victories or good performance on court.
