“What’s happening to the Warriors?” is what people are asking after the seven-time champ team recorded their third straight loss, 116-110, to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday.
Warriors are slowing down
The first few weeks of the season are always tricky. Some teams struggle early on because they have undergone significant off-season or pre-season changes to their roster or coaching staff, and they are still trying to find the right chemistry. On the other hand, some teams get off to a great start and then, for whatever reason, slow down gradually, resulting in a loss of momentum and a drop in their record and ranking.
Unfortunately, for the warriors, what they’re experiencing right now is the latter scenario. Or at least, that’s where they’re currently heading.
Despite losing their opening game of the regular season against the Suns, they bounced back to defeat the Sacramento Kings, Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, and New Orleans Pelicans in five straight games. The Cavaliers were the only team to end their winning streak last week, falling to their opponents by a margin of up to 11 points.
They then went on to win another game against the Pistons, 120-109.
However, after this, the fans were disheartened as the Warriors took three blows to their record as they lost to Nuggets, Cavaliers, and most recently, the Timberwolves.
With a record 6-5, the Warriors fell to No. 7 in the Western Conference standings.
Is Steph getting some help?
Despite the team destabilizing, Curry, being the basketball savant that he is, continues to deliver a remarkable performance on the court. But we all know that one player alone can’t carry the whole team. No matter how impeccable Curry’s record is, the other players need to step up to the plate and help get some load off Curry’s back.
As expected of the Warriors’ point guard, he’s led the team in all of their games. In their recent losses, Curry put up 23, 30, and 38 points. And so far this season, he’s averaging 30.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 48.8% FG, as per ESPN.
In their most recent game with the Timberwolves, with the exception of Curry, the players only recorded 36.6% of their shots from the field and were an abysmal 7-for-30 from behind the three-point line, as per goldenstateofmind.
