The Carolina Hurricanes’ much-loved right winger Andrei Svechnikov has been out of action since the game against the Vegas Golden Knights on March 11, 2023, owing to a knee injury. But he is expected to be fit for the new season starting in October. Svechnikov, who signed an eight-year, $62 million deal with the Hurricanes on August 26, 2021, will make $7.7 million during the upcoming 2023–24 NHL season.

Don Waddell, general manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, provided a positive update on Andrei Svechnikov’s progress towards recovery following a torn ACL. Interviewed on the NHL Network, Waddell said about Svechnikov, “He’s four months after surgery. He’s skating by himself, not with any contact or anything. Six months will be right when training camp basically opens (in September), so he’s right on schedule, probably ahead of schedule,” an article from sportskeeda.com shared.

Waddell emphasised the significance of October, when the new season starts, as well as Svechnikov’s crucial team role. In 64 games last year, he scored 23 goals and totalled 55 points. The Florida Panthers swept the Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference finals in May as a result of his right knee injury.

Andrei Svechnikov: Fastest skater on the ice

The Hurricanes’ speed ace Andrei Svechnikov broke records at the 2023 All-Star Skills competition, finishing the quickest lap in a mind-blowing 13.699 seconds. Kevin Fiala of the Los Angeles Kings, Cale Makar of the Colorado Avalanche, Chandler Stephenson of the Vegas Golden Knights, and Dylan Larkin of the Detroit Red Wings were among the finest skaters on display during the competition.

Svechnikov and Fiala were the front-runners. Fiala’s loop time of 14.114 seconds set the benchmark, but Svechnikov’s lightning-fast performance took the prize. The 23-year-old winger won the coveted title of NHL’s fastest skater by completing the track in a stunning 13.699 seconds, demonstrating both talent and tenacity in an exhilarating ice-bound fight.
