Despite being unofficial, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has replied to team India’s complaint over the cold food and bad hospitality at Sydney Cricket Ground for the T20 World Cup. The Indian team is currently in Sydney to play against the Netherlands on Thursday that is on 27th Oct 2022.
Tuesday’s training sessions for men in blue were a free event held at the stadium. KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Dinesh Karthik, and Virat Kohli were among those who were present. Though the lunch service was “cold and satisfactory”, Rohit Sharma and his team chose to skip it.
After their practice session at the SCG, Rohit Sharma and the company were disappointed to find only fruits, cold sandwiches, and falafel. You can be sure that the Indian cricketers, who are used to eating a big, scrumptious supper after working out in the nets for close to three hours, were not pleased with the menu.
After the majority of the Indian cricketers left the Sydney Cricket Ground without eating lunch on Tuesday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) declared that it is investigating the situation and pledged to resolve it quickly.
After their practice session at the SCG, Rohit Sharma and the company anticipated a substantial supper, but all they got were fruits, cold sandwiches, and falafel.
It is a shock as the T20 World Cup is one of the biggest events for cricket. In football terms, this is as though the FIFA World Cup did not provide adequate services for their players.
The Indian cricketers, who are accustomed to eating a big, sumptuous lunch after working out in the nets for close to three hours, were not pleased with the menu, so rest assured.
Although some of the Indian players did opt to have falafel and fruit, the majority of them made the decision to return to the hotel for a full supper.
Statements about the lunch for the T20 World Cup
Unofficially, the BCCI communicated its displeasure to the ICC. “Yes, the Indian team has informed us about their problems with the post-practice food. The problem will be resolved because we are working to figure it out “an ICC source told PTI.
It should be noted that the ICC, not the host organization, is in control of food and lodging during the T20 World Cup.
“It’s not like a boycott, really. While some players did purchase fruits and falafel, everyone wanted to have lunch, so they all had meals after they returned to the hotel “Under the condition of anonymity, a BCCI official with knowledge of the development spoke to PTI.
“The ICC’s lack of hot meals after lunch is the problem.” After a training session in a bilateral series, the catering is always handled by the host association, which always serves hot Indian meals. The ICC, however, follows a uniform rule that applies to all nations according to the official.
The change of events also elicited criticism from former India opener Virender Sehwag, who without identifying anyone made fun of the friendliness of western nations.
Suryakumar Yadav was the only Indian batter not present during India’s lone practice session prior to their upcoming Super 12 match against the Netherlands in said T20 World Cup.
Since the allocated practice area is roughly 40 kilometers from Sydney and the players would rather not go that far a day before the match, the Indian team opted not to practice on Wednesday.
Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel, two all-rounders, were also absent, and all the fast bowlers chose to rest during the optional training session.
