With their Indian Premier League triumph over the Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad broke numerous records and created a new record for the highest-scoring T20 match in history.
Mumbai put up an excellent effort in their game but ultimately fell 31 runs short on 5 for 246, as the hosts set a new IPL record of 3 for 277. Though it was a small comfort, they contributed to setting a new record total of 523 runs, more than the 517 that South Africa and the West Indies had before. With 38 sixes throughout the match, it set a new record for the most hits in a T20 game.
A Thrilling Triumph
Abhishek Sharma hit 63 off 23 balls and Australian opener Travis Head made 62 from 24 balls to provide Sunrisers a strong start. However, South Africa’s Heinrich Klaasen dominated the match with an outstanding 80 not out off 34 balls, including seven sixes and four fours.
Mumbai got off to a roaring start, scoring 56 runs in the first 19 balls. However, the Sunrisers captain, Pat Cummins, took the key wickets of Tilak Varma (64 off 34 balls) and opener Rohit Sharma (26 off 12 balls).
In the 15th over, Varma’s wicket left Mumbai 4 for 182, officially ending the chase.
Sunrisers broke the previous IPL record of 5 for 263, set by Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors in 2013. Aiden Markram made an undefeated 42 at a strike rate of 150 in the game.
