Jay Shah

Jay Shah and the BCCI has stated categorically that Pakistan would not host the 2023 Asia Cup. The competition should be moved to a neutral location, it was addressed during the BCCI Annual General Meeting. In contrast to the 2022 edition, the 2023 Asia Cup will be played in a 50-over format.

There were some fantastic matchups during the 2022 Asia Cup. The forthcoming competition will play a significant role because it will serve as a precursor to the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2023. It is anticipated that the approaching major event will decide the future of ODIs.

Asia Cup 2023: Jay Shah

ACC President and BCCI Secretary were questioned over Asia Cup 2023. “Asian Cup neutral venue is not unusual, and we have made the decision not to visit Pakistan. I’ve made the decision that we’ll play at a neutral location,” declared Shah.

Dubai on Cards

It appears doubtful that India will play in Pakistan, per Jay Shah’s assertion. Given that it has previously hosted two Asia Cups, the UAE appears to be the best option right now.

Since the competition is set to take place in September, dealing with the heat will be a challenge. We saw how difficult it was for the players to adapt to the circumstances during the Asia Cup 2022.

Given how long it has been since Pakistan last hosted an international competition, PCB would be disappointed. Handed that they have been given the hosting rights for the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025, it would be interesting to see how the PCB responds to this decision.

The ICC election

The ICC election issue was not discussed at the AGM, according to BCCI officials. Anyone who has attended a board meeting and served as a director of the global organization is eligible to run for the ICC Chair. The office-bearers will decide who would represent the BCCI at the ICC as well. Probably the top candidate for this is Secretary Jay Shah.

The choice was made one day after Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to back Sourav Ganguly’s candidacy for the ICC post.

Vice-president Rajeev Shukla stated, “Whoever is qualified is free to file nomination and the office-bearers will decide.” It remains to be seen whether Ganguly will submit the nomination, but it looks that current ICC Chair Greg Barclay will run for re-election and that former deputy chair Imran Khwaja would likely submit papers as well. The deadline to submit a nomination is this Thursday (October 20). In Melbourne, the election is held during the second week of November.
