While fans and pundits are divided on the war between coach Erik Ten Hag and superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, the club seems to have made it clear it is supporting the manager’s methods to ‘keep the team’ under his grip.
We all know that Tan Hag has escaped the guillotine thanks to his wins over Liverpool – in particular – and over Arsenal, the big team to beat this season, but it is hard to believe that the club will opt to crucify Ronaldo in the ridiculous tug of war.
While dropping Ronaldo for the Chelsea match after a supposed snub of the coach by the superstar during the Tottenham Hotspurs win – a win hailed as a massive breakthrough for Ten Hag – many are attacking the latter for his decisions regarding Ronaldo.
And we would say that they are right in hitting at the coach, certainly for his comments that he is not playing Ronaldo during losses to ‘protect’ the superstar’s reputation which is a senseless and stupid thing to say to the least.
Meanwhile, Ten Hag is altogether benching Ronaldo in winnable matches too, which actually reflects more on his managerial skills and on his perpetuating a perceive hatred he may have for the Portuguese player
Kevin Pietersen’s attack against Erik Ten Hag
Last week, Kevin Pietersen showed that he is less than impressed with the Dutch manager, hitting out at the latter on the way he is treating Ronaldo. Pietersen is not the only one and there are now a long list of personalities who are attacking the coach for his attitude and work ethics.
The English cricket legend, Pietersen has labelled the Manchester United manager a ‘clown’ following the treatment of Cristiano Ronaldo.
In the midst of the saga, Pietersen has weighed his point in the argument. With the T20 Cricket World Cup underway in Australia, United’s official Instagram account shared photos of a number of cricketing legends – including that of Pietersen – they have welcomed at Old Trafford down the years.
But Pietersen asked Manchester United to take his photo down from the Manchester United post as the star exploded into a huge rant in the comments section in defence of Ronaldo. Pietersen wrote: “Please take my picture down?
“I don’t want an association with a club that’s managed by a clown who is completely disrespecting the greatest footballer of our time.” Labelling the forward ‘the boss’, and continuing his attack on the manager, he added: “@Cristiano is the BOSS! That clown who no one will ever remember needs a wake up!”
The post appeared to be edited but United decided to comply with his request and took his photo down.
United put in their impressive performance of the season in midweek, after seeing off fellow top four rivals Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 at Old Trafford. Nevertheless, we believe that Ten Hag was lucky against Spurs.
While Ten Hag has to show leadership, he also has to give a very good reason why he is not fielding Ronaldo and why he is humiliating the top soccer player in the world benching him and fielding him in the last minute.
The reasons given so far by Ten Hag does not make sense and will continue to bring more attacks and criticism against both the club and the manager. Unless Ten Hag believes he can use reverse psychology to win this out, we are certain there will be more players who will come out against him if he continues on this path.
One of the few rare moments where the world of cricket and football clash with each other. Like what you’ve just read?
