The T20 World Cup final saw Pakistan lose to England by five wickets, and following the match, veteran Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar and Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami got into a Twitter argument.
Shoaib Akhtar’s remarks
Akhtar posted a heartbreaking emoticon after Pakistan’s title match loss in Melbourne when they were unable to overcome a 137-run total. Shami, who was a member of India’s T20 World Cup team, retweeted Akhtar’s statement and added: “Sorry, brother. It’s referred to as karma “. Within minutes, the tweet became popular. Then Akhtar replied to the tweet as well.
And this is a tweet that you would consider sensible. Along with a picture of Indian cricket analyst Harsha Bhogle and one of his tweets, Akhtar posted the following on Twitter: “Pakistan deserves credit.
Only a small number of teams could have successfully defended 137. greatest bowling group.” Also widely circulated was Akhtar’s reaction.
Speaking of the game, Ben Stokes and Sam Curran shone as England defeated Pakistan by a margin of five wickets to win both the 50-over and 20-over titles, making them the first team in the history of the sport to hold both crowns.
In front of an enthusiastic 80,462 spectators at a packed Melbourne Cricket Ground, Jos Buttler’s team restricted Pakistan to 137-8, with player-of-the-match and tournament Curran grabbing 3-12 and Adil Rashid contributing in with 2-22.
As they failed to establish any momentum against a ferocious pace assault and found it difficult to hit boundaries, England’s reply saw them fall to 49-3 in the six over.
However, Stokes (52 not out) and Moeen Ali (19) utilised their expertise and cool composure to lead England to 138-5 with six balls remaining, capping off an exciting campaign that lasted 45 games over almost a month.
