The Temba Bavuma-led South Africa has played admirably in the Super 12 stage of the ICC World T20 2022, according to legendary cricketer Ricky Ponting.
South Africa has established itself as one of the top candidates to advance to the semifinals of the 2022 T20 World Cup, which will be held in Australia and will be hosted by the defending champions. South Africa will be up against teams like Team India and Pakistan in Group 2 of the Super 12 stage.
In a low-scoring thriller at Perth Stadium, the team managed by David Miller outperformed Team India under Rohit Sharma. South Africa played Pakistan under Babar Azam in match number 36 of the T20 World Cup at the Sydney Cricket Ground following their historic victory over Team India under Rohit Sharma (SCG).
In an interview with ESPN ahead of Pakistan’s crucial match against South Africa, Ponting emphasized that the Proteas were the only unbeaten team in Group 2 of the T20 World Cup.
Ponting supported Australia’s entry into the T20 World Cup final against Team India rather than supporting the Proteas.
Ricky Ponting’s remarks
“Who knows who will perform in Melbourne, to be completely honest. Australia needs to find a method to go beyond the group, I hope.
The only unbeaten team left is South Africa, so they will be a threat, but I’ll repeat what I said at the outset: the final will be between Australia and India,” Ponting was cited in an ICC article.
Prior to Pakistan’s Babar-led team winning over South Africa in the T20 World Cup’s Super 12 round on Thursday, Ponting’s comments had already been made. In the game at the SCG, plagued by rain, the Proteas suffered their first loss at the hands of Babar-led Pakistan. Pakistan has moved up to third place in Group 2 standings after defeating South Africa by a score of 33 runs.
In the 38th game of the Super 12 (Group 1) stage at the Adelaide Oval on Friday, the defending champions Australia take on Afghanistan.
“I advised the guys to enjoy the situation for what it is before every important game, especially when I was the captain of Australia. Keep things under control and avoid treating it like a game since it is not one. Your performance will improve the more you can admit to yourself and others that this is a wider game and that you are not attempting to hide anything “Added Ponting
