Opening Ceremony

Following their agreement with Paris 2024, hundreds of dancers who had threatened to disturb the Olympic Games opening ceremony have cancelled their strike over compensation.

According to the FSA-CGT union, Paris 2024 and their employers have made an offer which suggests raising the amount that everyone would be paid for their broadcasting performance rights. About 220 dancers protested unfair housing and compensation practices by stopping a rehearsal near the banks of the Seine River in Paris, where the opening ceremony is scheduled to take place.

A delegate for the FSA CGT, Lucie Sorin, admitted: “The ceremony is in danger in a sense, yes. But it will depend on solidarity because the strike is an individual decision.”

Dances and higher compensations

Sorin then claimed that the dancers were negotiating with Paris 2024 and their employees to secure better pay and a sum of money for their dangerous and unsecured performances. After consulting with the artists in question, the union stated that it had chosen to accept the proposal and to halt the strike notice for the ceremony.

The union also stated that while the conclusion did not represent a complete triumph, it did satisfy some demands, especially those of the dancers who were most in danger.
