Marcus Rashford sent out a funny tweet after being benched for Manchester United’s 1-0 victory over Wolves on Saturday due to arriving late to a team meeting.
Before the game, Erik ten Hag explained that Rashford had been sitting out because of a “disciplinary” matter at Molineux. However, the Dutchman didn’t wait to bring in the hot-shot forward when the game was still scoreless at halftime. Rashford went on to score the game-winning goal, guaranteeing that United would finish in the top four going into 2023.
After his game-winning cameo, Rashford, 25, acknowledged that he had been benched due to excessive sleep the night before a team meeting.
Rashford stated, “Yeah it’s team rules, I think it’s a mistake that can happen but I’m disappointed not to play but I understand the decision. Ultimately, I’m happy we managed to win the game anyway so we can draw a line under it and move on.
“I was a little bit late for a meeting, I overslept, it can happen,” he added.
Bruno Fernandes praised Ten Hag for bringing order back to the team earlier this year, and Rio Ferdinand and Paul Scholes, two former Old Trafford favourites, were in complete accord with Ten Hag’s position on Saturday.

Fans are more than happy seeing Rashford taking his punishment after a mistake was made. They said that mistakes and slip-ups do happen, and when it does happen, you would just have to bear the consequences.
Recommendations on a good alarm clock were replied to his tweet. Furthermore, fans added that he is a professional footballer, yet he still oversleeps before important meetings which is a shocker to a lot of people.

Memes of police officers waking up a cell inmate came into play as fans stated that this is Erik ten Hag trying to wake Rashford up for the next game. Fans are taking this lightheartedly and memes are ever so prevalent in the football fandom.

Fans were still impressed at him for this and yet he managed to win the match right before the year ended. Others were not impressed at Ten Hag’s sense of control, they claim that he should calm down and not get upset over small mistakes.
Meanwhile others are stating that Rashford is making six figures a week and that being on time for meetings is a given. However, even after the “punishment” he still was needed by Ten Hag to score for United.
