Former 100-metre world champion Christian Coleman was expected to win gold in Paris 2024, but his hopes were dashed when he finished fourth at the US Olympic trials.

So, at 28, he will have to wait for another four years to chase that elusive individual Olympic gold medal.

However, he still has a chance of being selected for the US 4x100m relay team as one of the fastest starters off the blocks.

Coleman faced numerous difficulties on his way to the Games. In one incident, he missed a drug test because he was Chrstmas shopping. That kept him out of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Now the Atlanta-born sensation has suffered another setback, failing to secure a spot in the 100- and 200-metre events after spending nearly three years back on the track, desperate to put the controversy behind him and win gold in Paris.

Making his mark

Coleman, born in Atlanta, Georgia, on March 6, 1996, showed great sprinting ability at a young age. His outstanding skills were on display as a student-athlete at the University of Tennessee, where he broke records and won many NCAA titles, attracting the attention of the global sporting community.

A strong contender in the 100- and 200-metre events, Christian Coleman is known for his explosive starts and impressive acceleration.

His breakthrough occurred in 2017 at the World Athletics Championships in London, where he placed second in the 100 metres. He continued to dazzle, building his reputation as one of the fastest men in the world.

However, in August 2019, one month before the World Athletics Championships, the United States Anti-Doping Agency temporarily banned Coleman under anti-doping whereabouts rules.

These regulations prevent athletes from missing three drug tests in a 12-month period.

He appealed against the ban and was allowed to compete in the World Athletics Championships. But then it was found he had missed another drug test and was banned for 18 months.
