Jarred Brooks, well-known as “the Monkey God”, was a former ONE Strawweight MMA World Champion and would have wanted to leave ONE:166 Qatar with a 26-pound gold belt at his shoulder. Unfortunately, the results did not work according to what he desired.
Loss due to disqualification
Due to unexpected events, Brooks lost his chance to win the gold belt by being disqualified after hitting his opponent, Joshua “The Passion” Pacio, on the head during their match at the Lusail Sports Arena. The footage showed how extreme the slam was, and Brooks, although furious after knowing about the disqualification, became more composed. He admitted that he understood the motivation behind the results.
“It would’ve been great to celebrate that win, but at the same time, watching the video, going back while they put it in slow motion, I can definitely see why ONE Championship does that,” he declared.
Instead of dwelling on the outcome, Brooks is now focusing on winning his next fights. Moreover, he made it crystal clear that he had no bad intentions toward Pacio, and that they would be able to get past the incident in a civil manner. Additionally, he wishes for everyone to move on about the incident the same way they do.
“That’s okay man, I’m not biased to anything. If I lose, I understand. It’s something that I understand, I’m moving on from it,” Brooks stated.
