At the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, renowned rapper Snoop Dogg made an unexpected but fascinating appearance in a pop culture and sports crossover.

During his appearance on NBC as a guest analyst, Snoop offered his opinions and ran a 200-metre dash, finishing in 34.44 seconds. The 52-year-old artist made an incredible achievement, giving the event a thrilling twist, even if his timing was slower than Eliud Kipchoge’s sub-two-hour marathon pace.

Track and field’s most unusual event, the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase final, was enlivened by colorful commentary from Snoop. Runners had to jump over obstacles into a water pit. “Oh, he’s jumping from the top of the hurdle!”  he exclaimed, clearly excited.

Snoop and Noah Lyles collaborate on Olympic trials and field event reporting

Snoop Dogg accompanied top American sprinter Noah Lyles, who had just won the men’s 100-metre final at the Olympic trials, in a historic stadium walk-in. Lyles’ briefcase, containing his Adidas uniform for the semifinal that night, was carried by Snoop.

Snoop and Lyles’ mother watched the championship game from the stands as the 26-year-old star secured his ticket to Paris. Snoop has also provided illuminating commentary on many field events, such as the pole vault.

Trackside interviews between Snoop Dogg and Mike Tirico have helped NBC create anticipation for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

And it’s only getting started! There’s a noticeable buzz on social media. Snoop will be a big part of NBC’s Olympic coverage, the network revealed in December, promising more interesting programming to come.
