Katie Boulter and Emma Raducanu have both been named to be part of the British squad for the Billie Jean King Cup Finals in November.
The five-woman team for the competition in Malaga from November 13–20 is completed by athletes Harriet Dart, Heather Watson, and Olivia Nicholls, a doubles specialist.
A surprising victory over France in April on an indoor clay court in Le Portel secured GB’s spot in the knockout stage. In only her second match for her nation, Raducanu broke the tie on the first day after rallying past Caroline Garcia. Moreover, Raducanu won the tie for Great Britain by defeating Diane Parry in a third-set tie-break, following Boulter’s victory over Burel in the opening singles match.
Come November, the squad may appear very different because GB’s captain, Anne Keothavong, has the option to make up to three changes until the day before the team’s first-round match against Germany.
If Great Britain defeats Germany, they will play the reigning champions, Canada in the quarterfinals. Keothavong said: “Our team have created excellent memories over the last couple of years and will relish the opportunity in November.”
