Scheffler

Scottie Scheffler solidified his place as the best golfer in the world with a dominating win at the Tour Championship in Atlanta, the competition that concluded the season.

It completes an incredible 2024 for the American golfer, who became the first to win consecutive Players Championship titles. He also won an Olympic gold medal and his second Masters. He is the first player to win seven events in a season on the PGA Tour since Tiger Woods in 2007.

After leading Collin Morikawa by five shots going into the final round, Scheffler fired a four-under 67 to win on 30 under and take home $25 million (£19 million) of the $100 million prize money.

Highlights of his game

Scheffler led the FedEx Cup standings at the start of the week on 10 under par, two strokes ahead of Xander Schauffele in second place, and Morikawa was part of a group on four under in the staggered start for the third year in a row. He maintained his lead through the opening three rounds to set up what appeared to be an easy last round.

He had a five-shot lead, but Morikawa had bogeyed the opening hole. But Scheffler committed uncharacteristic mistakes on the seventh and eighth holes, making consecutive bogeys that let Morikawa, who birdied the fourth, sixth, and eighth holes, go very close to within two shots.

After Morikawa answered with a birdie on the 13th, Scheffler made his five-shot lead back on the following hole with a 15-foot eagle putt, and he parred his way home to win his first FedEx Cup.

With the prize money from his recent win, Scheffler’s official season earnings now stand at about $54 million. This marks his third consecutive season breaking the record set by the PGA Tour in that regard.
