According to Europe’s captain Luke Donald, Sergio Garcia is considering going back to the DP World Tour in order to qualify for the Ryder Cup next year.
In May 2023, Garcia withdrew from the DP World Tour after an arbitration panel’s decision in favour of the tour, causing the suspension of players who participated in LIV Golf events without authorization.
The DP World Tour then revealed that out of 17 players who were originally sanctioned, Garcia was the only one who had not paid his £100,000 fine, “nor has he given any indication that he intends to”.
Speaking at an event in New York alongside US captain Keegan Bradley with less than a year to go before the 2025 Ryder Cup, Donald admitted: “He (Garcia) resigned his membership a couple of years ago but we have had some chats.”
“He’s considering rejoining; he’d have to follow all the rules and regulations like everyone else and if he does that he will be eligible to partake in the Ryder Cup,” Donald added.
When asked if Garcia was serious about joining the Tour again for the 2025 season, Donald said: “Yeah, we chatted on the phone a couple of weeks ago… He’s certainly very interested in doing that. He understands everything that’s involved and again, the decision has to go to him whether he’s prepared to do all that.”
