Sha’ Carri Richardson, who had previously been an underdog, gained celebrity status at the World Athletic meet in Budapest after her stellar performance in 100M final and 4x100M. She won 2 golds and 1 bronze for Team USA.

On, Monday, Aug 21, Dallas’ Richardson established herself as one of the fastest women in the world as she finished the 100 meters in just 10.65 seconds at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary. This new personal best brought her a gold medal and helped her gain a strong foothold in the world of track and field.

The 23-year-old’s speed at the world championships set a new mark for the women’s 100-meter event, defeating both Jamaicans, Shericka Jackson with 10.72 seconds and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce with 10.77 seconds.

Richardson also claimed a bronze medal as she placed third with 21.92 seconds in the 200-meter race on Friday, Aug 25, just 0.51 seconds behind first-placer Shericka Jackson.

And just a day after the event, on Aug 26, Richardson anchored yet another win for the United States as she and her teammates, Gabby Thomas, Twanisha Terry, and Tamari Davis, placed first in the women’s 4 by 100m with the fastest record of 41.03. This was followed closely by the Jamaican Team with 41.21 seconds and the British Team with 41.97 seconds.

With two gold medals and one bronze medal, her recent triumphs have put her in the spotlight and particularly piqued the interest of one retired LA basketball player, Magic Johnson.

In his Twitter, Johnson posted a congratulatory message to the US team:

““Congratulations to the USA women’s 4x100M relay team Sha’Carri Richardson, Gabby Thomas, Tamari Davis, and Twanisha Terry for an incredible record-setting, gold medal finish!”

In another post, Johnson mentioned Richardson specifically to praise her recent performances:
