Team USA is predicted to top the medal standings at this year’s Olympic Games once again, with 100 days to go until the commencement of the event. The United States is expected to win 123 medals in Paris, including 39 gold, 37 silver, and 47 bronze, according to a virtual medal table presented by Nielsen’s Gracenote.
The team earned ten more medals overall, but the same number of golds as they had in Tokyo three years prior.
Gracenote declares: “If this total is achieved, it will be the best US medal performance since the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics which suffered from boycotts.”
Team USA
“The United States team has medals projected in 27 different sports in the Virtual Medal Table, two sports fewer than the country’s own Olympic record of 29 which was set in Tokyo… Athletics and swimming are still the key to success though with just under half of US medals projected to be won in those two sports,” she added.
According to Gracenote, American sprinters Christian Coleman and Noah Lyles are likely to win the men’s 100- and 200-meter races, respectively. The women’s gymnastics team and the men’s and women’s basketball teams are all predicted to win gold.
More so, Simone Biles, who returned to gymnastics last year after an extended absence, is expected to take home silver in the beam, floor exercise, and individual all-around competitions. Swimmer Katie Ledecky is expected to win gold in the 1,500- and 800-meter freestyle events.
The table is a statistical model that is primarily based on individual and team performance from previous competitions including the Olympics, World Cups, and World Championships.
