Murray

Andy Murray, despite recovering from his injury, defeated Kyrian Jacquet in the beginning of the second set to go to the next round of the ATP Challenger event in Bordeaux. Jacquet, a Frenchman who is currently ranked 219 in the world, declared he could not continue when Murray was ahead with a record of 7-5 2-0.

Murray is recovering from a ruptured ankle ligament sustained during the Miami Open in March, and this match was his way back to the tennis field.

The athlete declared: “I thought I did quite well…Coming back from injury, I guess it’s not easy.”

“My ankle feels really good. It was quite a big injury, but the recovery was much better than what me and my team expected…I worked really, really hard on the rehab. I trained it every day from when I got back from Miami to try to come back as quickly as possible. I’m happy with how it’s all going. Let’s see, hopefully I can keep going,” he added.

Murray vs Barrere

Murray will now play against Gregoire Barrere in the next round. Barrere recently won against Spain’s Albert Ramos-Vinolas with a score record of 7-6 6-2.

In an attempt to speed up his healing and compete in the French Open, Wimbledon, and the Paris Olympics this summer, Murray decided against having surgery on the ankle injury.

He admitted: “I want to play the French Open again. I always love playing at Roland Garros, it’s a special tournament… Of the four Grand Slams, it was a really difficult tournament because clay has always been the hardest surface for me.”
