World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka feels ready for the upcoming tennis season and hopes to build on another incredible year.
After defending her Australian Open championship in January, the Belarusian athlete won her third major singles title in September at the US Open. She also ended the year ranked as No. 1, beating Iga Swiatek at the top of the world rankings.
As she prepares for the 2025 tournaments, Sabalenka said: “There are so many things to improve… I’m not that good with maybe my game at the net in singles. There is a lot of things to improve in my touch game.”
She added: “Even my serve is not as good as I want it to be, so there are always [elements] to improve.”
The athlete will begin her season at the Brisbane International, starting on December 29. Last season, she lost to Elena Rybakina in the finals at Brisbane.
However, she went on to defend her Australian Open title without dropping a set.
In 2025, she will attempt to become the first woman to win three consecutive singles titles in Melbourne since Martina Hingis in 1999.
“You work hard on lots of things in the pre-season… The first tournament before the major tournament is the one where you can try it out and see what’s going to work well for you, and what’s not…. I have a lot of great memories from here and just can’t wait to start playing,” the 26-year-old Sabalenka remarked.
