Sabalenka

Aryna Sabalenka, who ranks 2nd in the world, managed to control her emotions after the passing of her former boyfriend to defeat Paula Badosa 6-1 6-3. Both players wore an all-black outfit as they played on the court after six hours of weather delays. The outfit is a choice matched by Badosa, who is her close friend.

“She’s one of my best friends..Of course, I know what she’s going through. Honestly, for me hasn’t been easy, too. I don’t know what to say, honestly. She’s a strong woman. I think she will get the power from somewhere,” Badosa said regarding Sabalenka.

Heartbroken Sabalenka

Sabalenka admitted that she was ‘heartbroken’ by the passing of her former boyfriend, Konstantin Koltsov, even if they were not dating at the time he died. Despite the drastic news, Sabalenka did not withdraw from the tournament and continued to play in the Miami Open.

According to reports, Koltsov died due to an ‘apparent suicide’— jumping from the balcony of a room at a resort. He was a former NHL ice hockey player and coach and passed away at the age of 42.

The Miami-Dade Police Department declared that there was no foul play about his death.

National team coach Dmitry Baskov admitted in a statement: “Konstantin was one of the undisputable leaders of our team, a talented progressive coach, a bright player.. He was an example of sturdiness, hard work, dedication and an idol for many Belarusian boys and his colleagues. It’s hard and unfair when such people leave so early.”

Moreover, messages asking  for comments from Sabalenka’s publicist and tournament officials were not answered right away.
