Golf League

Last year, Golf stars Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy proudly announced that they would be launching a televised indoor golf league, the TGL, with the aim of enticing young athletes into the sport.

The event was set to take place at a 250,000-square-foot venue named ‘SoFi Arena’, at Palm Beach State College in Florida.

And it was just a few short months away from the start of its first season when an unexpected event occurred.

On Monday, the TGL shared in a statement that the golf league will be postponed due to structural damages on the arena’s roof.

Golf League Delays

The TGL announced in a statement on Monday that the golf league will not take place as planned because of structural damage to the arena’s roof.

The catastrophic accident occurred on November 14th. The air-supported dome portion of the facility sustained damage as a result of a power outage that disabled both the backup systems and the temporary power system.

Fortunately, no one was harmed, and most of the technology sustained no damage.

However, after extensive deliberation with their important partners, PGA TOUR leadership, and our commercial partners, SoFi, ESPN, and Palm Beach State College, they’ve ultimately decided to push back the inaugural season to 2025.

Despite the new timelines, Tiger Woods maintained his positive outlook, stating that he still firmly believes in TGL and is optimistic that their talented and committed players will eventually bring the concept to reality.

Rory McIlroy, on the other hand, said that he was glad no one was injured during the incident and that while he was disappointed, they will take this time as an opportunity to “regroup, refocus, and return stronger.”

They also posted this announcement on their official X page, where a lot of fans expressed their concern in the comments section.

Some fans expressed their dissatisfaction with the postponement and stated that it was preferable to debut the new golf league with compromise, on schedule, and merely make some changes along the way. They also added that the demand for the league would significantly decline if it were to begin in 2025.

While others were in the opposite camp, saying that it would be much better to be safe and that, despite the postponement, they are still very invested in the league and look forward to its start, even if it takes another calendar year.
